Another network - LinkedIn

As per the FO2010 course activity, I've joined LinkedIn. At first glance it is hard to imagine using this one as much as some of the other social networking platforms because to me it looks like it is for people who want to be 'head-hunted' or to find new jobs, but I'll give it a go, explore a bit more and see where it gets me...promotion?? Further up a career ladder?? Who knows!

  1. Hi Sharon, I do not use LinkedIn much but my understanding is there are soem great professional networking groups you can join that are really useful. Have a look and see what you can find - bet you anything you can find groups of people interested in sustainability

  2. Hi Sharon, I've joined LinkedIn too. I don't find it that user friendly. I like Facebook more and appreciate that LinkedIn is for professionals but it seems more unwieldy and not as visually attractive as FB. What do you think? For more advanced functionality with LinkedIn you can pay a fee. I haven't worked out if that is worth it yet. Has anyone else?

  3. I don't think LinkedIn is as big here as it is in the USA. I have heard stats that you're many more times likely to get a job if you have a LinkedIn account than if you don't...in the USA

  4. Hi Carolyn
I can't really compare it to Facebook as I don't have an account on there - I've been avoiding Facebook for 5 years now (it was 2005 when I was first introduced to it), although I do occasionally peek at my husband's page. But I have yet to have a good 'play around' on LinkedIn. I am certainly not prepared to pay a fee at this stage.
